Cloud Imperium Games is looking for a Mid-Level Systems Designer to help with creating compelling mission gameplay, AI, systemic gameplay systems that suit a “sandbox” environment and tuning of the economy within the Star Citizen universe.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Lead Systems Designer to design and implement compelling gameplay that enhances the overall experience for Star Citizen’s Persistent Universe
  • Contribute towards systemic features that expands the functionality within Star Citizen
  • Implement systems and content that leverages the capabilities of existing systems
  • Create logical, archetype-based AI and/or Missions with our proprietary toolset that can be shared between our locations
  • Cleanly implement content with our designer tools and scripting language
  • Develop prototypes that clearly articulates the vision of the features/content for which you are responsible
  • Pitch concepts, designs, and gameplay improvements to project leads
  • Partner with cross-disciplinary teams to execute game systems
  • Use data analysis skills to plot how the game is being used. Draw conclusions and make recommendations for how to improve the experience
  • Routinely collect feedback from user-testing, the development team, and design management to refine gameplay mechanics
  • Solve problems in such a way that it will not affect other gameplay systems in adverse manner
  • Contribute to tools and workflow development, highlighting bottlenecks, or suggesting areas where tools could improve workflow
  • Fulfill other such duties and responsibilities assigned by Cloud Imperium Games reasonably consistent with employee’s skills and experience

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in game development – in a Systems/Tech Designer capacity
  • Experience working on 1 large scale AAA game or multiple mobile titles that involve 3D. (Preferably from pre-production to release)
  • Must have knowledge in C style programming language or visual scripting that handles gameplay systems such as weapon balancing, navigation mechanics, basic AI behavior, or scripted sequences
  • Positive, solution-oriented individual with a passion for game-development
  • Experience with next generation AAA game engines
  • Excellent sense for design and creating outstanding user experiences
  • Focused, motivated and effective on all tasks through completion
  • Keep a positive team-oriented attitude
  • Be proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to accurately estimate tasks and complete them within given time constraints
  • Excellent English communication and written skills
  • Willing to relocate to Los Angeles, California when the COVID WFH period is lifted
  • International travel may be required as a part of this role

  • Experience with building behavior tree-based AI for FPS Experiences
  • Knowledge with using Kibana for data analysis
  • Massively Multiplayer Game experience

  • Can point to personal projects or completed work that is a demonstrable example of previous work that highlights your abilities
